ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To establish a detection method for zirconium and its compounds in the workplace air with inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry( ICP-MS). METHODS: The samples in workplace air were collected by micro filtration membrane. The water soluble zirconium compounds were eluted with 2. 0 mol / L hydrochloric acid and then pre-digested by nitric acid. The water insoluble zirconium compounds were digested by ammonium sulfate solution and then determined by ICP-MS. RESULTS: There were good linear relationship in the range of 0. 000-1. 000 mg / L, and the correlation coefficient was 0. 999 9. The detection limit was 0. 1 μg / L,and the minimum detection concentration was 0. 07μg / m~3(sample volume was 75 L). For the water soluble zirconium compounds the average recovery of standard addition was 95. 0 %-98. 8 %. The with-in run relative standard deviation( RSD) was 2. 0 %-3. 9 % and the between-run RSD was2. 8 %-6. 6 %. For the water insoluble zirconium compounds, the average recovery of standard addition was 94. 4 %-98. 7 %. The with-in run RSD was 2. 1 %-4. 2 % and the between-run RSD was 3. 2 %-4. 7 %. The samples could be stored at room temperature for at least 30 days. CONCLUSION: The method is rapid, accurate and high sensitivity. It can be used for quantitative detection of zirconium and its compoundsin workplace air.
